Diggers Forest School

Diggers Forest School is a unique nursery environment for children that has a holistic approach to learning, education and wellbeing. Founded in 2007 Diggers was originally an after school club, however growth meant our first nursery in South Harting was opened in 2015. Diggers follows the forest school ethos and the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’. We have worked hard to develop our approach in order to offer a unique and balanced learning foundation for all children, so that they can reach their individual potential. Our nursery is very different to your typical setting as we have access to such vast amounts of outdoor space, across woodlands and farmland for children to explore, learn and discover.

“I am delighted to have been appointed as a Governor of Diggers Forest School and I look forward to my role and responsibility in professionally supporting Alex and Caroline as they launch and nurture their school and their pupils through the specially devised educational experiences which I firmly believe will make Diggers the outstanding provider in the county.”

Meet the Team

Our Ethos

Diggers is unique in that it was in existence for four years prior to becoming a Forest School, so it has many additional assets and is “more” than “just” a Forest School. The following values encapsulate the Diggers ethos:

Respect

for each other, and everything within the natural world

Passion

for all things good in life such as play and learning

Good Behaviour

we have a strong Behavioural Policy

Risk Taking

assessing risk is important, for a child this may be just picking up a wriggly worm – to build inner strength and confidence.

We aim to achieve the following:

Inspire children to want to learn more
Help children to achieve their potential
Ignite each child’s imagination
Help every child to succeed
Instigate opportunities for children to learn new skills
Help every child to feel confident in themselves

Principles

In addition, the Diggers Forest School’s ethos is based firmly upon the following principles agreed by the Forest School Community in 2011:

  • Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment
  • Forest School takes place in a natural environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and natural world
  • Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved
  • Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves
  • Forest School is run by qualified practitioners who continuously maintain and develop their professional practice
  • Forest School uses a range of learner-centred processes to create a community for development and learning
